That time you've not posted in almost six years but keep getting that nagging feeling to write again. Write something. Just do it. Stop making excuses. DO IT! I's actually 9:22pm on October 13, 2026 so let's see how long this will take me to finish! I've been putting it off because so much has happened in SIX years, and I couldn't possibly cram all that into a blog post. Maybe I should. Maybe I shouldn't. Well, in moderation! Where do I begin?
Ok, so six years ago. We all know that our world was flipped upside down and round so I won't bore you with that year. Since my last post we've had two more high school graduations, a college graduation, an internship turn into fulltime employment for Miracle #1 at a well known bank. She works at their headquarters and has been promoted to the Director of their FDP (Financial Development Program) and is an Assistant Vice President. She has found favor amongst her coworkers and does an outstanding job making presentations, analyze all kinds of financial data, and is called on to do that quite frequently...sometimes impromptu which says a lot about her skillset. It has been a joy to see her become this strong, independent, sensitive, Jesus loving, travel expert, and always up for some fun daughter of mine blossom into a beautiful young woman. She rivals her parents with her love of travel! I keep telling her she needs to find her same job (or different!) that would allow her to travel FOR work because her travel fun is very much interrupted by her work! She has her own travel blog. Guess she really does take after her momma. It's so fun to read. It can be found here: Peyton & Abigail | Substack I particularly like one of her first posts because this is SO our life- I Flew on a Confirmed Ticket for the First Time & Didn't Know What to Do With Myself
Miracle #2 will actually be graduating college an entire year early this upcoming spring. I really can't believe she's a SENIOR. She's definitely living her best life and has had the best college experience (with the exception of her first week! Maybe I'll have her write about that and God worked in her life during that!). She jumps in and goes hard in all she does. She doesn't take no for an answer. She's quite determined and doesn't ever give up. Literally. I can't keep up with her busy schedule as she was a Resident Assistant her sophomore year which she faithfully did even though it was not her favorite job. She has worked for her school's athletic department in Fan Experience and currently as a Student Recruiting Assistant for the football team. Her major is Sports Journalism with a minor in Marketing. She interned for the Dallas Cowboys over the summer, and that is another perfect example of her "go get 'em" attitude. She's still our very "smiley" child which is one of her many best qualities. A bright light she is! That smile is very welcoming as she serves at her church's greeting team and is the friend that keeps everyone connected.
Miracle #3 is pursuing becoming a rocket scientist. I guess he technically already is! Ever since middle school he's read books about jet propulsion, rockets... all things way over my head! No pun intended either! He is a junior majoring in electrical engineering. He was just hired for an internship next summer at one of the largest defense contractors, and he's super excited. As we are! In his spare time he works as a research assistant in the engineering department, builds rockets, rock climbs, and serves at his church in the media ministry (carried that on from middle and high school!). I must say the first time he sent me a video of his Aero Club launching a rocket I cried. What??? Who cries at a rocket launch? Well, his momma does! An emotion came over that I couldn't explain! The gratefulness to God that has given him the opportunity to pursue something he loves and me imagining him still being in China with that smart mind of his not being challenged or even allowed to do any of it! He's a hard worker, compassionate, introspective, and amazing!
David continues to fly and instruct at his favorite airline as well as or church (well, teach not fly at church!). Our family greatly benefits from his hard work. We love his flexibility in scheduling and the travel benefits which we take advantage of on the regular. Being an airline family isn't for everyone, but I can't imagine my life any other way! He's a great provider, fun loving, spontaneous, and cares for us so well. Chan has had a great example to look up to, and our daughter's future spouses will need to step it up because their daddio has set the bar high!
For me personally, it's been a lot of adjustment. David and I have entered empty nesting and enjoying quite well! It seems life is more active than when kids were at home in some ways. It's just a different kind of active. Now that all of our nuclear fam and extended fam are not in the same state, it seems we're constantly going going going. It's all good and thankful we have the flying privileges. When not traveling I'm concentrating on my newest role. I've been helping relaunch our women's ministry at our church by helping two of my friends (who are the co-leaders) by being the administrator. What I've loved is getting to know more women, getting them plugged in, hosting them in our home, and encouraging them in the faith! Balancing our lives and responsibilities in our home state plus trying our best to be intentional with family and not neglecting our own marriage along with guessing (or second guessing!) when we can catch flights can be stressful. We often laugh when we look at all of our locations on the app...we're pretty much all over the map on any given day, and the only way I can keep up with my pilot!
Besides all the kids leaving the nest and adjusting to a much quieter house, God is showing me how to quiet my own spirit. I'm trying to learn, and honestly, it's kinda hard at times! I can be "quiet" but things are oh-so-loud in my head. I'm thinking about this, fixing that, wondering about xyz, while at the same time asking God to help me surrender my plans for so many things...kids, their future, our future, ministry, David's career, and so much more.
So, when I say much has happened in the last six years this is what I mean! God is so good. I am so thankful for the life He has given me. I think I'm glad I opened up the blog again...like I've said in the past-it's cheap therapy for me! Something about focusing, reflecting, and sharing is therapeutic to me. Not sure how often I'll share my musings. So much to share. This just barely touched the surface. It was just a quick family recap!
Until next time~
oh, and now it’s 8:42am on November 2. lol. Again….distractions!
